So, here's my first take on pleistocene mammals - I actually really love recently extinct megafauna, although I don't usually draw them. Pictured is Homotherium serum, which is my favourite amongst the extinct felines for whatever reason, as well as some mammoths in the background and a conspicuous trail of smoke coming from somewhere behind the mountains.
I know I mentioned "mammal-on-mammal action" in my latest journal; that's because I intented to have some dead animal in front of the cat, like a deer or baby mammoth or whatever, but ultimately preferred this "crouch and hide 'cuz they are coming" theme.
I also made an experiment eliminating the top black frame, I think it looks nice.
I'd say the end of the muzzle (vibrissae area) should be bigger, more rounded and puff. Like clouded leopard here [link] And I think the eyes are bit too small.
It's the blur! Mammoths are blurry, trees and smoke are not, that's what was distracting my eyes from believing the depth of the landscape! And now I will shut up! Love your work!
I love how that cat is just deciding what to do next with the observer! May I say that I find the trees in the background a little bit too prominent, composition-wise? There is a lot going on right in the centre of the image, it lumps together a little. Anyway, great image! Megafauna rocks!
