SO. MANY. FEATHERSS.

This is Linheraptor exquisitus, a lesser-known cousin of fellow Velociraptor. I wanted it to look particularly bird-like here, to further show how a dromaeosaur can look avian but still beautiful, believable and yet not quite a bird.

The feather patterns are inspired by things like quails and willets, but I tried to make them look more shaggy and 'primitive', almost like down.

I also gave it 'lips'. Not quite sure about it, just an experience.

Also, thanks everyone who answered my question about wing folding! The links and responses were very useful here.

Julio, in my opinion you are the best Paleo-Artist on deviantart, would you mind telling which mediums you use to create your pictures? Are they hand-drawn? Congratulations!

Exquisite indeed. Very lifelike. I like the way you don't fall into the "dinosaurs were reptiles with a few feathers glued on" camp and rather go for more naturalistic representations.

Yeah, this is definitely something I could see running about on a Cretaceous plain looking for food. With this kind of pattern on it's back it ended up looking a lot like the Great Bustard (Otis tarda) which is an animal about the same size as the Linheraptor.

This looks awesome! Too bad the name isn't valid anymore... Linheraptor sounds WAY more awesome than Tsagaan in my opinion.

I've always been puzzled to how these dinos would look with that long pubic bone, never was sure whether the skin would run straight back into the tail making it have a very thick appearance, or coming straight up making that boot-like shape as you have here. But I think by how you have illustrated it it looks very natural indeed, especially as you have covered the body with feathers, it covers most of the pointy-ness of it! Also how you drew the legs like bird legs makes so much sense! No wonder the bone structures of these creatures were so thin! THEY HAD BIRD LEGS DAMNIT!

Good call with the mouth. You hit the nail on the merging the two worlds together.
